Tim McGraw reacted to a Georgia-born singer-songwriter’s cover of a duet he released with Faith Hill nearly 20 years ago.
Caylee Hammack shared her rendition of “I Need You,” a ballad that married country stars Hill and McGraw debuted in 2007. The song appeared on McGraw’s 14-track album, Let It Go. Hammack, 30, said when she posted a clip of her performance on Instagram on Tuesday (February 25) that “if the love ain’t like Tim & Faith I don’t want it… this song is always on my mind!”
“I wanna drink that shot of whiskey/ I wanna smoke that cigarette/ I wanna smell that sweet addiction on my breath/ I wanna ride 'cross West Virginia/ In the backseat of a Cadillac/ You know some cowboys like me go out like that/ So I need you
“Like a needle needs a vein/ Like my Uncle Joe in Oklahoma needs the rain/ I need you/ Like a lighthouse on the coast/ Like the Father and the Son need the Holy Ghost/ I need you”
“I love this song,” McGraw said as he shared the clip of Hammack’s rendition on his Instagram story. He added that the ballad “was Faith’s dad’s favorite. Love seeing I covered.” Hammack reshared McGraw’s story and wrote: “The scream I just scrumpt [sic], thank you for listening. I’m a huge fan of you both.”
Hammacks’ cover of the duet by McGraw and Hill arrives shortly after she announced her sophomore album and companion romance novel, Bed of Roses. She released the title track last month. the record and the book will both arrive on March 7. Hammack said via her record label: “I was a child who grew up on paperback romances stolen from my aunt’s bookshelves. I envisioned each song on this album as a book initially, so writing one to pair with this project felt like a natural move. As creators, we look for ways to connect with our listeners, and this book was a good avenue to tell some backstories of the heartbreak ballads and love songs on this album, while also sharing a new story inspired by the songs after writing them. Life is the bed you make, grow a good one.”
