Multiple people have been shot at a high school in Arlington, Texas. Law enforcement agencies rushed to Timberview High School around 9:30 a.m local time after receiving reports of a shooting on the second floor.
"We are on scene at a shooting at Timberview High School. We are doing a methodical search and working closely with @ATFHQ @mansfieldisd Police, @MansfieldPDTX @GrandPrairiePD, and other agencies," the Arlington Police Department wrote on Twitter.
Officials said that four people were shot. Three of those people were hospitalized, and the fourth person was treated at the scene. Their identities and the extent of their injuries were not disclosed. Three of the victims were students and the fourth was an older person, who may be a teacher.
Authorities said they have identified a suspect in the shooting and said it stemmed from a fight between students. Officials said they are looking for Timothy Simpkins, calling him a person of interest. They said he is an 18-year-old Black male and was last seen driving a 2018 silver Dodge Charger.
Simpkins showed up at the police station several hours later with a lawyer and turned himself in. Arlington Assistant Police Chief Kevin Kolbye said he is facing three charges of aggravated assault.
Authorities set up a parental reunification point at the Center for Performing Arts located at 1110 W. Debbie and said they would begin busing students to the location now that the campus has been cleared.
KTXA reporter Nicole Jacobs spoke with a parent who talked to her son during the lockdown.
"He said the doors are locked, and the police still haven't found the shooter," the mother said. "I haven't been able to reach my son for 20 minutes… when we last spoke, I heard the other kids crying and screaming in the classroom."
