Katy Perry in the middle of "BlackFace" Controversy

There have been several companies, recently, that have apologized for selling what is being called "racially insensitive" clothing, such as a sweater from Gucci that resembled blackface. Also, a Dolce and Gabbana ad said it promoted cultural stereotypes.

Katy Perry has a line of shoes that are fun, flirty and sexy, but there are two pairs that have been pulled from shelves. The shoes which are the Rue Face slip-on loafer and the Ora Face Sandal are seen below. What do you think? Katy and her company have responded, “The Rue and The Ora were part of a collection that was released last summer in 9 different colorways (black, blue, gold, graphite, lead, nude, pink, red, silver) and envisioned as a nod to modern art and surrealism.”

“I was saddened when it was brought to my attention that it was being compared to painful images reminiscent of blackface,” the statement continued. “Our intention was never to inflict any pain. We have immediately removed them from katyperrycollections.com."
